Reading is one of the greatest gifts we can give a child. It is a gift that, once given, can never be taken away and will forever transform that child’s life. It literally opens the door of possibility. I’ve seen what can happen when that door is closed.
For students who are struggling with reading—particularly those performing two or more years below grade-level expectations—intervention is essential in helping them make sustained gains. The need for reading intervention has increased in recent years. According to the 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) reading assessment, average reading scores in 2022 were lower for both fourth- and eighth-grade students compared to 2019—scores were lower by three points in both grades.
Focused literacy resources, with appropriate and effective scaffolds, support achievement of grade-level expectations by closing skill gaps and building content vocabulary, language, and comprehension. Our explicit and systematic high-quality intervention solutions align with Science of Reading research and the tenets of Structured Literacy and fully support Resource, Special Education, and Title Teachers. Print and digital formats offer flexibility to suit every teacher’s class model.
