What has been found to enhance learning outcomes is simultaneously engaging different sensory modalities in activities directly related to reading and writing.

Skilled Readers Before Grade 3
In Knox County Schools our educators have found the use of the Magnetic Letter Tiles to be effective and impactful. Students are able to manipulate letter tiles to build words, decode words, and encode words seamlessly throughout the whole group foundational literacy lessons and within small group foundational literacy support. By engaging students in multimodal learning experiences, we are ensuring students have the necessary approaches to learning in order to become skilled readers prior to third grade, a pivotal year of applying foundational literacy knowledge to reading and responding to complex texts while making meaning of the world.
