Reviews

“In this warmly interpersonal work, the creators illuminate the tradition of the Ramadan Drummer, who, before alarm clocks, would “call us out of bed for our last meal before fast.” – Publisher’s Weekly

A lively telling of the true spirit of Ramadan. —Kirkus Reviews

As he and the old, bearded drummer walk the streets, Adam hears whispers from people in the surrounding houses, many lonely or in need—and he realizes that doing good deeds is what Ramadan is truly about. Dinara Mirtalipova’s sumptuous illustrations soar during the nighttime sequences, the whispers swirling into the air.

—Mahnaz Dar, 4 Picture Books to Celebrate the Muslim Holidays, Kirkus Reviews

Readers learn, along with Adam, that Ramadan is about more than being hungry all day—it’s also about the value in helping and being there for others. – School Library Journal
